Since I first started teaching we have come along way from my three Apple computers and a few living books. There are many online resources where teachers and parents can access e-books for children.
A few years ago when I was working with struggling 3rd graders, I came across the website TeachingBooks.net. This is a really great site for students in lower elementary all the way up into the higher grades. This site not only has a section where you can hear books read aloud by the author, but there is also a section called Author Resources where interviews with favorite authors can be found. I found this not only a plus for my reading program, but a great resource for my writing program. It was very motivational for students to hear and see real authors and illustrators at work in their studios.
This site is very user friendly, and has a rapidly growing data base. Teachers can also access book guides to help plan instruction. The cost for TeachingBooks.net is about $300 per year, per campus. I found it well worth it.
This is a great way to bring authors into the schools!
